Abstract
Editor's Note: Recently, Carolyn Medical School in Sweden awarded the 2019 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine to American cancer scientist William G. Kaelin Jr., British medical scientist Sir Peter J. Ratcliffe and American medical scientist Gregg l. Semenza, for their outstanding contributions in discovering how cells perceive and adapt to oxygen concentration changes. We invites experts in the field of hypoxia research in China to write this article, briefly describe the outstanding work of these three scientists, review the development of hypoxia physiology research in China, and especially introduce the important breakthroughs made by domestic scholars in this field in recent years.
