Acta Physiologica Sinica Data Deposition Instructions

I. Purpose and Scope

In compliance with national policies on scientific data deposition, to enable scrutiny by the academic community and establish a bidirectional linkage mechanism between papers and underlying data, Acta Physiologica Sinica implements the deposition of paper related data.

“Paper related data” refers to raw data and its derived data that support the research conclusions of a paper. The scope recommended for deposition in Acta Physiologica Sinica includes but is not limited to:

• 1. Raw and processed data directly supporting paper conclusions and generating figures/tables, e.g., raw acquired data of electrophysiological waveforms, gene sequencing data, bioinformatics analysis data, etc.;
• 2. Statistical analysis codes, model algorithms and script programs;
• 3. Appendices and experimental records omitted due to constraints on article length;
• 4. Multimedia materials and other relevant supporting documents.



II. Principles for Data Deposition

This journal adopts a flexible policy framework of encouraged sharing and categorized management:

• 1. Principle requirement: Paper related data of research papers shall be deposited and shared to the greatest extent feasible.
• 2. Protective exceptions: Data involving research ethics, patient privacy, sensitive information or confidential data inappropriate for public disclosure may apply for conditional access or access upon request.
• 3. Voluntary supplements: Raw data generated in research but not reflected in the paper are encouraged for voluntary sharing.

III. Data Submission Repository

Authors shall submit data via the dedicated data community for Acta Physiologica Sinica hosted by the Science Data Bank (ScienceDB). Community URL:

IV. Data Submission Workflow

• 1. Registration and Login: Visit the ScienceDB platform (https://www.scidb.cn), register and log in with a personal account.
• 2. Enter the Community: Navigate to the dedicated Acta Physiologica Sinica data community (https://www.scidb.cn/c/actaps).
• 3. Create Dataset: Click “Data Submission”, fill in dataset metadata (title, authors, abstract, keywords, etc.), upload data files, and select a data sharing mode.
• 4. Temporary Storage and Revision: Submitted data may be saved as a draft; information can be modified at any time until formal submission.
• 5. Data Review: After formal stylistic review by the journal editorial office, ScienceDB assigns dual unique identifiers: DOI and CSTR.
• 6. Data Release: Upon approval, data are officially released and retrievable on the repository.

V. Requirements for Data File Formats

• 1. Preferred formats: General formats suitable for long term preservation including CSV, TXT, PDF/A, JPEG, TIFF, etc.
• 2. File naming: It is recommended to name files following the pattern “manuscript number_data content” for convenient correlation.
• 3. Data annotation: Brief descriptions for data files are recommended, specifying variable definitions, data sources, processing procedures, etc.
• 4. Sensitive data: Human subject related data must undergo anonymization / irreversible desensitization processing.

VI. Data Availability Statement

Authors must add a Data Availability Statement section after the main text and before references of the manuscript. Please select the appropriate template according to actual conditions:

• 1. General Template: The paper related data (DOI/CSTR: ___) of this paper are available in the Science Data Bank (ScienceDB) (https://www.scidb.cn/c/actaps).
• 2. Data requiring special software to open: The paper related data (DOI/CSTR: ___) of this paper are available in the Science Data Bank (ScienceDB) (https://www.scidb.cn/c/actaps). Software required to open the dataset: ________.
• 3. Data inappropriate for open sharing: The paper related data of this paper are not suitable for public sharing and may be obtained from the authors upon reasonable request. Author contact information: ___.

VII. Data Citation Specification

Authors are encouraged to list published datasets in references. Recommended citation format:

No. Author(s). Dataset title[DS/OL]. Science Data Bank (ScienceDB). Version (if applicable). Acta Physiol Sin. [Reference Date]. DOI.

VIII. Rights and Liabilities

• 1. Authors’ rights: Authors retain intellectual property rights over data; authors independently select data license agreements (CC BY 4.0 is recommended).
• 2. Authors’ liabilities: Authors bear full responsibility for data authenticity, legality and desensitization processing.
• 3. Journal responsibilities: Conduct stylistic review of data and establish correlation matching between papers and datasets.
• 4. Repository responsibilities: ScienceDB guarantees long term preservation and persistent accessibility of deposited data.

IX. Implementation Arrangement

This policy applies to all manuscripts submitted from the effective date onward. For previously submitted archived manuscripts, encouragement will be prioritized in the initial phase for progressive implementation.
