Abstract
A method was described in this article for long term recording of the cochlear
potential (microphonics, compound action potential (CAP) of 8th nerve) from
external auditory canal in the awake guinea pig. The maximum amplitude of CAP [N_(1)] obtained in normal guinea pigs is 70-80 #mu#V. The results of the observation over a period of 4 months showed that the latency, threshold and maximum amplitude of CAP [N_(1)] are quite stable. The technique may be used for recording cochlear potential in the awake guinea pig over a long period.
