Abstract

Isolated isthmic smooth muscle of different phases(i.e. proliferative, secretory,
menstrual,pregnant and lactating phase)from 58 normal Chinese women(22-40
years old, during salpingectomy for sterilization) was used for the study of contraction and sensitivity of response to norepinephrine (NE) [10~(-7)-10~(-3) mol/L accumulative concentration). Isthmic smooth muscle activities at proliferative, menstrual and lactating phases were stronger and at a higher frequency than those at secretory and pregnant phases. The response of the isthmic smooth muscle to NE at proliferative, menstrual, secretory and lactating phases is excitatory in nature, while that at pregnant phase is inhibitory. The result also shows that the contractility of circular muscle is stronger than that of longitudinal muscle but of similar contractile pattern.
