Abstract

During germination of ultradry (UD) Ulmus pumila seed stored for 2 months, ATP content was higher than that of control, which provided enough energy for seedling growth. The result of standard lead precipitation procedures indicated that ATPase activity of UD Ulmus pumila seed was higher, compared with the control seed. The study also demonstrated that UD seed can maintain higher amylase activity and carbohydrate metabolism. The higher activity of anti-oxidation enzyme indicated a higher vigour level of ultradry (UD) Ulmus pumila seed and higher self defense ability against the attak of free radicals than that of control. These results demonstrated that UD seeds could prserve seed vigor during storage, so suitable storage will benefit for seed vigor.
