Abstract

In vivo fast cyclic voltammetry (FCV) was used to investigate dopamine (DA) release from central amygdaloid nucleus (CAN) of ovariectomized (OVX), estrogen-treated and normal female rats. Radioimmunoassay was used to measure the serum concentration of estradiol (E_(2)). DA release was significantly higher in OVX rats treated with estradiol benzoate (EB) as compared with controls. The DA release due to electric stimulation is dose-dependent on serum concentration of estradiol, suggesting that estrogen may play an important role in regulating DA release from CAN.
