Abstract
The effects of NAA (naphthaleneacetic acid), GA_(3) (gibberellic acid) and CPPU (N-(2-chloo-4-phidyl)-N^-phenylurea) on fruit set and development, cell division and expansion, and the level of endogenous hormones of fruits developed from unpollinated flowers were studied and compared wit those of pollination in Lagenaria leucantha. Parthenocarpic fruits formed by CPPU induction were significantly larger than polinated fruits. NAA and GA_(3) increased fruit set, but neither of them could induce the formation of parthenocarpic fruits of normal size. CPPU stimulated bot cell division and expansion. Cell number in longitudinal section, cell area in inner pericarp in cross-section and fruit weight are significantly larger in pathenocarpic fruit formed by CPPU induction, as compared wit unpollinatecd ovaries and pollinated fruits. IAA (indoleacetic acid) and t-zeatin concentrations, however, were lower in CPPU-treated fruit than in pollinated and unpollinated fruits.
