Abstract
Roots of fifteen-day-old grass pea seedlings were treated with PEG and then the leaves were used as material. Changes in activities of catalase and peroxidase, and hydrogen peroxide and #beta#-N-oxalyl-#alpha#, #beta#-diaminopropionic acid (ODAP) contents during PEG treatment, were assayed. The results indicated that during PEG treatment, activities of peroxidase and catalase decreased, and hydrogen peroxide and ODAP content increased greatly. Diethyldithiocarbamate or aminotriazole strongly decreased or increased respectively the H_(2)O_(2) content. While the accumulation of ODAP was decreased markedly by diethyldithiocarbamate, it was increased significantly by aminotriazole. Therefore, we suggest that the accumulation of ODAP might be related to the increase in H_(2)O_(2) content under osmotic stress.
