GABA inhibits progesterone production of luteal cells of rat ovary

Abstract

In the present work we report that GABA inhibits progesterone production and increases the amount of hydroxyl radical in cultured rat luteal cells. The inhibitory effect of GABA on progesterone production may be mediated by adenylate cyclase system and GABA_(A) receptor, but not through protein synthesis pathway.
