Abstract

Post-illumination transient increase in chlorophyll fluorescence in intact maize leaves fitted well to a triple exponential model, showing the usefulness of the model as a mathematical framework for analysis. As illumination duration increased from 30 s to 270 s, the maximum ascending gradient, the height and the area of the post-illumination fluorescence peak went through an ascent and a subsequent gradual decline, while the maximal descending gradient after the peak showed a monotonicdecline. The change in magnitude of post-illumination fluorescence peak with increasing duration of illumination partially reflected the dynamics of the level of stromal reductants accumulated during illumination.
