Abstract
The effect of blue light on protein metabolism during the formation and growth of mung bean hypocotyl calli was investigated. The results obtained by measuring the protein contents, the incorporation of ~(3)H-leucine into protein and the proteinase activity demonstrated that 3 to 18 days after incubation, protein content in the explants grown under blue light was the highest. On the contrary, free amino acids in the tissue of blue and white light treatments declined faster and their contents were lower than those grown in the dark. The activity of proteinase was inhibited both by blue and white lights. Moreover, incorporation of ~(3)H-leucine into protein was strongly enhanced by blue and white light.
