Response of rice photosynthesis to CO_(2) enrichment
Abstract
The CO_(2) concentrations in the chambers were kept at 350#mu#l/L (ambient) or 600#mu#l/L (elevated) monitoring by an infrared CO_(2) analyzer with computer. Fv/Fm in leaves of rice species and varieties including Oryza sativa Luhangzhan 3, O. sativa Tesanai 2, O. sativa II You 4480, O. officinalis (wild rice species) and O. spontanea (wide rice species) showed no significant difference between plants growing under elevated and ambient CO_(2). As compared with the control at ambient CO_(2), the average photosynthetic oxygen evolution rates of Luhuangzhan 3, Tesanai 2 and O. spontanea under elevated CO_(2) were 9%-20% higher, while those of cv. II You 4480 and O. officinalis were 7%-12% lower. The photosynthetic pigment content and dark respiratary rate of rice leaves decreased under elevated CO_(2) were observed in Luhuangzhan 3, Tesaniai 2 and O. spontanea, but a decrease was found in II You 4480 and O. officinalis. Photosynthetic acclimation was not observed in cv. Luhuangzhan 3, Tesanai 2 and O. spontanea in a longterm experiment with elevated CO_(2).
