Effects of boron-deficiency and low temperature on some physiological responses of cucumber seedlings
Abstract
Solution culture was conducted to study the effects of boron deficiency and low temperature on some physiological responses of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L. cv. Zhongnong No. 1101) seedlings. The results showed that under the boron-deficient condition the growth of seedling was inhibited, the leakage of K~(+) from plasma membrane of leaf cells was enhanced, and the cell inner structure was damaged. All of these changes were more pronounced at low temperature. Furthermore, the contents of sucrose and reducing sugar in primary leaves were also accumulated.
