Abstract
Some aspects of nurse cultures by virtue of the protoplast culture of foxtail millet were studied. The results showed: the plating efficiencies of the protoplast cultures were influenced by the species of nurse cells. Using the calli of E. crusgalli as nurse cells, the nurse effect is better in the culture of embryogenic protoplasts than in the nonembryogenic or intermediate type protoplasts of foxtail millet. The effect of nurse cultures was the results of interactions between intact nursed cells and nurse cells, with the least influence on the protoplast growth; no significant quantity effects of nurse cells using in the experiments were detected.
