Abstract
Significant differences in carbohydrate content and protein content were found between seedling leaves of W_(25) and its parent line 2177s (Figs. 1, 2). The contents of carbohydrates and proteins in leaves of 2177s were the same under 20 degree C and under 25 degree C, but were obviously different in leaves of W_(25), where the contents of starch, sucrose and free amino acids grown under 25 degree C were significantly lower than those of 20 degree C, while the contents of reducing sugar and protein were the other way round. The contents of free amino acids were about the same in leaves of W_(25) grown under 25 degree C and under 20 degree C, except that Ser, Glu and Val were lower under 25 degree C than under 20 degree C, and those of Arg, Pro and Thr were higher under 25 degree C than under 20 degree C(Fig. 3). The activities of pyruvate kinase and glutamine synthetase in leaves of W_(25) were also higher under 25 degree C than under 20 degree C (Figs. 4,5).
