Abstract

Five peptides with similar electrophoretic characterisitics belonging to two kinds have been identified in rice stigma and style using NEPHGE and 2-D electrophoresis. In self- or cross-compatible pollinated stigma and style, these peptides without distingwished changes. While a distinct peptide with MW 17.5 kD,pI 8.5 was identified after cross-incompatible pollination, which may be related to the recognition of incompatible pollen.A high concentration of Ca~(2+) was found on the surface of mature stigma, but not on the surface of immature one.Forced pollination induced concentration of Ca~(2+) to the surface of immature stigma. This suggests that Ca~(2+) be not only related to the maturation of stigma, but also to its contact with pollen.
