Abstract
Results of the experiment showed that mannitol as an osmoticum raised the endogenous ABAcontent of peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) embryos cultured in vitro. The curve of the change of endogenous ABA content was similar to that of the speed of synthesis of arachin and coarachin of storage proteins, and ABA also induced and promoted the synthesis of LEA protein in peanut embryos cultured in vitro. Fluridone, an inhibitor of endogenous ABAsynthesis, decreased the content of endogenous ABAin peanut embryos cultured in vitro, its effect on the development of peanut embryos in vitro was opposite to that of the mannitol osmoticum. It issuggested that the effect of mannitol on the development of peanut embryos is through the action of endogenous ABA, but the mechanisms by which they regulate the germination of peanut embryos are different.
