Abstract
~(3)H-ABA loaded in roots of Vicia faba L. could be transported to shoot at a speed of 5.6 cm/min or higher in a relatively short period of 5 min. ABAtransported from roots was distributed mainly in the epidermis. However, after 3 h, it was mainly distributed in mesophyll cells. When the transport was inhibited by covering the leaf surfacc with Parafilm, the transport and accumulation of ABAin leaves declined substantially. The results of autoradiography showed that ABA transported from roots to shoots could be distributied in the apoplast of guard cells and epidermal cells. The rapid transport of ABAfrom root to shoot and its accumulation in apoplast of guard cells indicated that stomatal movement could be controled by ABA communication from root to shoot in response to water stress in Vicia faba L.
