Selenium absorption and distribution in rice (Oryza sativa L.) plant and effects of mixed application of Se and Si

Abstract
The ~(75)Se absorbed by roots of rice plant (W6154s×Sheng-You-2, F_(1)) was distributed more in top leaf than in lower leaves and was highly concentrated in roots. Plant height, root length, ~(32)P distribution in plant shoot were higher under selenium treatment (Na_(2)SeO_(3)) at 0.3#mu#g/ml than at 0.1 #mu#g/ml. Na_(2)SeO_(3) at 0.6#mu#g/ml decreased plant growth, lowered the contents of soluble protein and chlorophyll in leaves, making them chlorotic. The addition of sodium silicate (SiO_(2)80 #mu#g/ml) together with selenite increased plant height, contents of chlorophyll and soluble protein, and the amount of ~(32)P absorbed and distributed to shoots, and made leaves greenish. When selenite concentration was too high, they were decreased. The addition of Si promoted ~(14)C-assimilate export from leaf, distribution in panicle and IAP (Wang 1987) at booting, milky and dough stages of rice plant.
