Abstract
The effects of (-)SPD and (-)THP on the noradrenergic neurons in rat locus coeruleus were investigated by recording the in vivospontaneous firing . It was found that (-) SPD could increase the firing frequency of the NE neurons via antagonistic action on #alpha#_(2) autoreceptors in a dose-dependent manner, while #alpha#_(2) receptor agonist clonidine exerted an inhibitory effect. (-) THP induced inhibitory firing of the neurons, however, irreversible.
