Abstract
It was found that the trifluralin treatment enhanced the resistance of cotton seedlings to Fusarium) wilt with delayed disease development and reduced disease incidence and severity. When cotton seedlings were pretreated with trifluralin or inoculated with F. oxysporum) f. sp. vasinfectum), the levels of cell-wall hydroxyproline and free proline in tissues of both cultivars in creased markedly and those in the resistant cultivar increased more markedly han those in the susceptible one. Therefore, the accumulation of both cell-wall hydroxyproline and free proline in the tissues is considered to be a biochemical response of cotton seedlings to trifluralin treatment and/ or pathogen infection.
