Abstract

Strawberry fruits harvested at the stage of milky white(40 d after blossom) were treated with exogenous ethlene at concentrations of 10#mu#1/L, 50#mu#1/L, and 100 #mu#1/L. The changes of the RNA metabolism were studied by the determination of the contents of high molecular weight RNA and poly(A)~(+)RNA as well as the activities of RNase and in vitro protein synthesis. It has been shown that the contents of high molecular weight RNA and poly(A)~(+)RNA and the ratio of (poly(A)~(+)RNA)/RNA was increased by ethylene treatment at a concentration of 10 #mu#1/L or higher. The RNase activity and in vitro protein synthesis activity were also increased by ethylene treatment.
