Abstract

The effects of light, temperature and cultivated modes on growth and artemisinin accumulation of Artemisia annua L. shoots (Fig.1) were investigated. The time course of shoots growth is shown in Fig.2. Figs.3 and 4 show that the artemisinin yield in shoots were enhanced under light irradiation length of 20 h/d with light intensity above 3 000 lx. The optimum temperatures for growth and artemisinin accumulation were 25℃ and 30℃ respectively (Fig.5). The artemisinin yield was improved in a bistaged temperature culture (25℃ for 25 days and then 30℃ for 5 days) (Fig.6). It was of beneficial to obtain the maximum artemisinin yield in shake flask culture with a shallow layer of liquid and low rotation (Fig.7).
